Case study and cloud technology in teaching behavioural disciplines at a higher educational institution of the Russian Ministry of the Interior
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
Introduction. A substantive analysis of numerous sources on modern pedagogical discourse regarding interactive teaching methods and cloud technologies provides the basis for substantiating the relevance of seeking, testing, and implementing new technological solutions in higher educational institutions of the Russian Ministry of the Interior to improve the quality, anthropocentricity, and practical focus of the learning process. The authors put forward a hypothesis and set a research goal: to summarise the positive experience of empirical study and implementation of case studies, combined with cloud technology for storing and using video cases with game elements, in teaching behavioural disciplines at Kazan Law Institute of the Russian Ministry of the Interior. Methods. The study employed the following methods: a pedagogical experiment conducted in three stages; an informal content analysis of recent scientific publications on the research topic; informal interviews with serving police officers; a comprehensive survey of cadets using a semi-formalized questionnaire; and direct participant observation during practical classes with full-time fourth-year students. Results. Summarising the authors’ original pedagogical experience, the results of a three-year pedagogical experiment, and data from other empirical studies, the paper concludes that integrating case studies with cloud-based gamification technology in teaching behavioural disciplines significantly improves anthropocentricity, practiceoriented learning, and overall educational quality. This approach better prepares students for work in both professional and digital environments. The teacher, acting as a facilitator and game designer, combines the case method with cloud-based storage and use of gamified video content. This stimulates student interest, encourages active involvement, strengthens motivation, develops independent judgment, enables participation in discussions, and teaches collaboration in solving practical problems. The authors believe that the proposed model, having been successfully tested as a technological solution, can be implemented in higher educational institutions of the Russian Ministry of the Interior through creation of necessary pedagogical conditions. They can include creating dynamic thematic video cases; expanding the educational compendium via domestic cloud platforms with large-scale video storage and a diverse set of digital tools; and training and retraining instructors in the case method, digital technologies, and gamified learning.
