Questionnaire ‘psychological safety of the professional activity subject’: development and standardization
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
Introduction. The article describes the procedure and results of developing a new method for assessing an individual’s psychological safety – the ‘Psychological Safety of the Professional Activity Subject’ questionnaire. The development of the questionnaire was a logical continuation of the conceptualisation of the ‘Psychological Safety of the Professional Activity Subject’ construct and contributed to its operationalisation and empirical verification. The psychological safety of professional activity subjects is considered from the perspectives of the system-activity and subject-resource approaches and is defined as an integral personal characteristic manifested in the specifics of threat assessment, their prediction, emotional attitude and volitional self-regulation, as well as practical experience in actions ensuring self-preservation in potentially threatening and genuinely dangerous situations. The questionnaire scales bear the same names as the components of the theoretical model of the studied phenomenon. The questionnaire consists of 26 items and allows for separate assessment of the cognitive, prognostic, affective-regulatory, and behavioural components of the psychological safety structure of the professional activity subject, as well as its overall level: high, medium, or low. The respondent sample used for the questionnaire standardisation comprised 1,484 individuals of both sexes, aged 17 to 54. Psychometric indicators based on Cronbach’s alpha were 0.895 for the total score and ranged from 0.712 to 0.913 for individual scales, indicating high consistencyreliability for each scale separately and for the questionnaire as a whole. Methods. The five-component theoretical model of the psychological safety of professional activity subjects was confirmed using confirmatory factor analysis. Results. The questionnaire is intended for practical application within the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation and other security forces to diagnose the features of employees’ psychological safety manifestation, as well as for scientific psychological research aimed at studying the subject area of this phenomenon.
