Introduction. The number of migrants in the Russian Federation, including illegal ones, is increasing every year. More than 6 million migrants settled in Russian cities. Under the pressure of the “newcomers” the Russian economy starts noticeably “sagging”. Migrants bring their wives, children and relatives with them. The burden on the Russian health care and education systems as well as on law enforcement agencies is becoming excessive. But this is not the main problem. The worst thing is that the newcomers do not accept our values, do not know the language, and create national communities that threaten security not only for individuals, but also for society as a whole. Methods. The article deals with the economic, educational and criminal aspects of migration, closely related to each other, as well as well as the issues of interrelations between extremism, terrorism and illegal migration on the basis of such general scientific methods as analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, generalisation, description, comparison, system-structural method. Specific scientific methods (statistical, document analysis) were also used. Results. Particular attention is paid to the assessment of the use of modern technologies to recruit migrants to commit terrorist and extremist crimes and to involve them in ethnic organised criminal groups. Statistical data on the number of migrants, their criminal activity, extremist and terrorist activities are presented. Information on the participation of the Security Service of Ukraine in the recruitment of migrants to commit terrorist acts and their taking part in military operations on the side of the Kiev regime is analysed. Proposals for improving preventive work both among migrants and among risk groups, such as minors and pensioners, are made.In the authors’ opinion, it is necessary to toughen legislation on migrants, limit the number of work permits issued and introduce other similar measures.
