Introduction. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to improve work with the personnel of internal affairs agencies, caused by the problem of insufficient scientific knowledge about motivation and demotivation for official activities. The practical significance of studying the motivational sphere of citizens entering the service is related to the implementation of an effective personnel policy in terms of the adaptation of young employees and the prevention of deviant behavior and incidents among personnel. Purpose of the study: to examine the structure of motivational and demotivational factors among candidates for service in internal affairs agencies. Methods: The «Motivational Profile» method was used to identify the most and least pronounced motivational factors. Descriptive statistics, the Spearman correlation coefficient (r-Spearman), and the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H-test were applied. Results: Candidates for service in internal affairs agencies have been identified as having both the most pronounced motives and the least important ones. The results described were obtained through psychological testing and are indicative in nature. Each motivational factor can be represented in the form of specific antagonistic motives that determine both normative and deviant behavior. Understanding the dualism of motives (egocentric and altruistic) depending on the employee's orientation will make it possible to improve the work on preventing violations of official discipline and legality. Recommendations are given on the use of the identified characteristics when making decisions on the category of professional psychological suitability and during further psychological support within the framework of moral and psychological support for operational and service activities.
