Introduction. The relevance of the study is due to the lack of theoretical knowledge concerning the socio-psychological nature of the service team. This deficiency impedes the development of methods for its study and hinders the organisation of psychological work with service teams, their formation, their support, and moral and psychological assistance both under normal and special conditions of activity. The generalisation of socio-psychological and organisational-psychological theories and concepts of the staff makes it possible to synthesize the characteristics of the service team, highlighting its dependence on official activity. A service team refers to a small group whose formation and functioning, its composition and structure, interactions and relationships are all mediated by official activity. The research methods are general scientific methods of cognition: the generalisation and synthesis of scientific information about the phenomenology of the service team. This process helps to develop a comprehensive understanding of its socio-psychological characteristics. The results of the study expand on the concept of the service team and how it differs from other types of teams (e.g. educational, industrial, sports and creative). The results also reveal the features of interaction and intragroup relations. Socio-psychological characteristics of the service team encompass the preparation and training of its members, their organisational unity, psychological cohesion, and moral orientation. The team official activity is characterised by adherence to legal frameworks, productivity, reliability and efficiency. The interactions and relationships between team members are built by the unity of command principle and subordination and are mediated by official activity. These results contribute to the development of the service team theory, providing the study of the key crucial characteristics for enhancing the effectiveness, productivity and reliability of official activity in special operational conditions. The results can be applied to work with the heads of the service teams in organizational units, as well as for direct psychological work with personnel. To understand the socio-psychological nature of the service team is crucial for both the psychologist and the head of the unit, who is interested in shaping the service team core values, improving the quality and effectiveness of the job performance carried out by subordinate personnel, and ensuring their moral and psychological readiness to work in any conditions.
