Introduction. The article proposes the concept of organised ethnic crime on the basis of the analysis of content characteristics and constitutive features. It is substantiated the allocation of it as a separate type of crime, which forms the activities of criminal associations formed on ethnic grounds. The emphasis is made on that it is not the fact of belonging of persons involved in organised forms of criminal activity to a certain ethnicity that allows to identify a type of organised ethnic crime, but the awareness of these persons of ethnic belonging as a factor in the formation of a criminal association and the implementation of criminal activity. The existence of organised ethnic crime is determined by the participation of individuals in joint criminal activity on the basis of group ethnicity, which determines intragroup unity on the basis of ethnic selfcategorisation and opposition of the group to other communities, as well as the adoption of values and norms, traditions and customs of the ethnic group, including criminal ones, which determine the image of the surrounding world and the place of the individual (group) in it. The purpose of this article is to verbalise the concept of organised ethnic crime and to establish the mechanisms of its formation. Methods. The research is based on the universal dialectical method of cognition of socio-legal phenomena in the entirety of interrelations of social relations, including the relationship between the level of organisation of criminal activity and the personality of the offender. A set of general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, abstraction, system method, etc.) and private scientific (formal-legal, logical, statistical, content analysis of mass media and the Internet, etc.) methods of cognition were used as well. Results. The concept of organised ethnic crime has been formulated and the mechanisms of its formation have been determined. Depending on the mechanism of formation it is necessary to distinguish criminal associations formed on ethnic grounds, of classical (traditional), mixed and network types. The characteristics of each type of the considered associations are considered.
