Introduction. With the growing popularity of unmanned aircraft, many challenges anWith the growing possibilities of unmanned aviation use, there are many challenges and threats to state security. Effective introduction of new technologies should be accompanied by the creation of an appropriate legal framework and unified terminological apparatus. Currently, there is a problem of terminological diversity in the area in question, affecting the efficiency of legal regulation. Methods. The research was based on general scientific methods such as analysis, categorisation, classification, typology and statistical method, as well as private legal methods such as formal-legal, comparative-legal and historical-legal methods. Results. As a result of the research, the author provides a classification and typology of unmanned aerial vehicles (hereinafter referred to as UAVs) using the characteristics of unmanned aircraft systems (hereinafter referred to as UASs). These results can be applied in law enforcement practice in the qualification of offences related to the use of UASs, as well as in the development of normative legal acts and effective measures to counteract threats coming from the unlawful use of UAVs. The theoretical significance of the article consists in the development of a methodologically verified and functionally substantiated typology of UAVs, eliminating terminological and legal uncertainty in this area.
