Introduction. The study conducted by the authors of the article was focused on the analysis of the available up-to-date information on the physical fitness of police officers undergoing initial professional training in educational institutions of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia. At the same time, the task was to concretize the concept of physical fitness and determine its main components. The study considered and clarified the assessment tools that allow determining the level of physical fitness of a police officer, identifying the physical condition of students at the initial and final stages of training. Methods. In the study, along with the analysis of scientific and methodological literature, working programs on physical training and our own pedagogical experience, the testing method was used. The data obtained through testing helped to resolve the issue of the dynamics of changes in the physical fitness of police officers undergoing initial professional training in an educational institution of the Ministry of the Interior of Russia. Results. The traditionally put forward hypothesis that the physical fitness of students improves during initial professional training was not fully confirmed. A number of indicators indicate some deterioration in the actual physical fitness of students. The results of the research work made it possible to formulate practical recommendations for police officers on the implementation of the concept of independent physical training, as well as for developers of basic professional training programs in terms of the volume and focus of physical exercises.
