Introduction. The article presents the results of a study of the key features of digital space in the context of modern civil law doctrine. Such characteristics as virtuality, globality, decentralization, dynamism, and automation of digital legal relations are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the influence of these features on the formation of new legal norms, and the need to adapt civil law to the modern realities of the digital age is emphasized. The author set himself the task of identifying the key features of the digital space that, in the context of the digitalization of society, necessitate a rethinking of traditional approaches to the development of effective mechanisms of legal regulation. Methods. The methodology of the research conducted by the author of the article was based on an integrated approach, involving the use of logical-analytical, formal-legal, philosophical-methodological, and comparative-legal methods. Results. An analysis of digital space's characteristics, such as virtuality, globality, decentralization, dynamism, and automation, has led to the conclusion that they are radically transforming civil legal relations, blurring the boundaries of traditional civil law institutions (object, subject, transaction, liability, intellectual property, etc.). Modernization is required to ensure a balance between the positive impact of innovation and the associated risks. Virtuality and automation open up opportunities for the use of new forms of assets and the fulfillment of obligations, decentralization minimizes the scale of centralized control, globality complicates jurisdictional issues, and dynamism makes legal relations unstable. Digital space is creating a new reality, where law must ensure protection in conditions of uncertainty, while focusing on the flexibility of norms and international cooperation.
